Up with olives

One of my favorite New York City experiences is to sit at the brushed stainless steel bar at Schiller's Liquor Bar in my neighborhood on the Lower East Side and have a Tanqueray martini or two - on the dry side, up with olives.  When I am with my friend Lindsay, we always share a medium rare cheeseburger (one of the best in the city) and some pommes frites.  The bartenders are chic and friendly, the lighting is just how I like it (low), and the music is pitch perfect.  It can be tough to find a bar stool and on busier nights the crowd can run a little finance frat for my taste, but it is just right to wind down on a Sunday or Tuesday night.

I love the latest Tanqueray ad campaign, "Tonight We Tanqueray," featuring Karen Elson (above), Aloe Blacc and others - sounds like a plan to me!

Unconventional chic

Lacoste's spring 2011 ads are pure fashion genius, the kind of thing that gets me excited about advertising. I'm a proud sucker for good marketing, and this is right up my alley. Featuring some of today's biggest models (Liya Kebede, Anja Rubik & Noah Mills, from above) wearing classic white polos over black tie evening wear, the campaign states "Unconventional Chic: Lacoste." Suddenly I cannot live without a simple white Lacoste polo: homerun!

Back to school

New York had a little burst of cool weather this week (accompanying a miserable 4-day run of dreary weather), and I think it got people in the mood for fall dressing - I saw one woman in a very premature fur vest! Certainly, my autumn wardrobe is one of the things keeping me from sadness that yet another summer has nearly passed. I'm looking forward to vintage leather and denim jackets, my new Richard Chai motorcycle peacoat, Missoni knit sweaters, old plaid flannels, layered Rick Owens Ts, slim khakis, and ankle boots.
