The Gilded Life
My best fashion moment was in 1996, when Karl took over the entire first-floor Imperial Suite for his couture show, to observe the twenty-fifth anniversary of Mademoiselle Coco's death. He had two shows that brisk January day, and between them Naomi Campbell, Shalom Harlow, and Kate Moss came to my room--a simple one with two armchairs and the bed in a neoclassical alcove--and took naps. Karl and I walked in to find them all lined up asleep under layers of fine pique sheets, like fairy princesses, false eyelashes still in place.

Valentine girls
I'll definitely be buying the new issue of VMan, out February 14 and featuring a bonus pinup calendar starring the most beautiful women in the world, including Joan Smalls, Doutzen Kroes and Lily Donaldson above, styled by THE Carine Roitfeld.

Always in Vogue
There's little chicer in my mind than standing up for worthy causes, women's rights always chief among them. January Vogue features the incomparable Meryl Streep on the cover and includes the story of her work as the chief spokesperson for the effort to create a National Women's History Museum in Washington, D.C. Annie Liebovitz captured the core committee of powerhouse American women behind the effort in inspiring images taken in front of the U.S. Capitol. You really must click to enlarge!
Included are, above from left, NWHM president Joan Wages, Secretary Madeleine Albright (the nation's first female Secretary of State), U.S. Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), Barbara Bush, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, Patricia Nixon Cox, Dr. Maya Angelou, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, and Streep.

Top model
Sally Singer's T Magazine has become one of the best and smartest fashion books in the game, and this spread and story of Joan Smalls from the September Women's Style issue, styled by David Vanderwal and shot by Boo George, is a great example why.
I adore Joan - she's the type of person about whom the word "fierce" doesn't sound so trite and annoying, but rather dead on. She's gorgeous and strong, at the top of the industry, and polite and friendly to top it off.

New chick
One of my favorite new models is Anais Mali, and my very favorite part of August's U.S. Vogue (I know, I'm behind) is the accessories spread starring her, styled by Elissa Santisi and photographed by Raymond Meier. I hope to see Anais on many a spring'12 runway.

Woman on the verge
V Spain's latest issue is dedicated to genius filmmaker and Spanish national treasure Pedro Almodovar, with superstar Naomi Campbell on the cover shot by Sebastian Faena in a nod to Almodovar's film "Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!"
Karmen by Hedi
Karmen Pedaru is one of my very favorite models, and these shots by Hedi Slimane for Vogue China give you a good idea why.

Lady in vogue

No, literally, Lady in VOGUE!!! A blurry first look at Lady GaGa's much-speculated cover for Vogue's big March issue, somehow obtained and leaked on TFS. I think it is a pitch-perfect mix of the Wintour and GaGa aesthetics. Obviously more to come on this.

Glamour heiress

The gorgeous Julia Restoin Roitfeld, whose mother Carine is a close friend and former collaborator of Tom Ford's, was a perfect model for Mr. Ford's refined-sexy comeback collection, with her seamless mix of tasteful and edgy. These photos were taken by her and will appear in V Magazine.

Karlie, Karlie, Karlie

I used to be not a very big fan of Karlie Kloss, the now 18-year old megastar from Missouri. A couple years ago -- you know, when she was around 12 and walking every show from NYC to Paris -- something annoyed me about her. I'm still a little mystified (and disappointed) to see things like when Donna Karan casts teenage Karlie in her "25 years for a woman, by a woman" anniversary ads. But you can consider me converted.
I'm still not over these Peter Lindbergh "Checks in the City" shots from Vogue's September issue.
