Essential

These Chloe sandals are, as The Imagist would say, the everything.

State secret, update.

Chelsea Clinton wore a custom-made gown by Vera Wang to her wedding today, and her mother Hillary wore Oscar de la Renta.

It's pretty simple

Perfect T, fitted jeans, killer shoes, a big coffee and a bigger bag - and there you have it.

Silky smooth

That Jane Aldridge is just so lovely and likable.
I've really been dying for silk lately - the feel and the luxurious way it falls on your body.

State secret

The very elegant Chelsea Clinton, with straw hat perched atop her practice-run matrimonial up do', entered Vera Wang's showroom to meet her mother, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, yesterday - upping the estimates that she will wear custom Wang (vs. Oscar de la Renta) for the ceremony this Saturday. Reports also had the Mother of the Bride visiting the showroom of the Clintons' close friend de la Renta yesterday. There are conflicting rumors as to whether Chelsea also attended the Oscar visit.

I originally assumed Chelsea would wear custom Oscar, given the family's closeness with Oscar and Annette, but my current guess is that Chelsea and the bridal party will wear Vera and Hillary will wear Oscar (as she always does).

Either way, it will be a magical wedding for a very special woman. Best wishes, Chelsea!

Courtney Love, in epic gold-studded Givenchy number, with her friend and stylist Panos Yiapanis at a Chanel show in Paris. These two are quite the avant garde fashion duo!

OBSESSED!

Courtney Love Cobain in a Margiela jumpsuit,
from my FAVOURITE new blog,

And IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

Will always love La Lohan.

She is fairly certifiably delusional, but I'm really rooting for her.
And she looks to die for here in these Ellen von Unwerth (a frequent collaborator!) shots for German GQ.

Still

Karl Lagerfeld's gorgeous new ads for Fendi featuring Anja Rubik. These look like stills from a beautifully styled film, which, in Karl's hands, they basically are.

I love the idea of Givenchy's forgoing a couture runway show for these gorgeous portraits by Willy Vandeperre and a private showing of the garments on mannequins for the customers and editors who actually need to see them in person (and who are the only people who ever would anyway). You can click on the link above to see a front and back closeup of each look - supposedly they were inspired by Frida Kahlo and the human skeleton. They are sublime.

Big-bang fashion shows are really just marketing tools to create buzz among those who might splurge on a handbag or other accessory from the label (and rarely the clothes actually shown in a show). Most of the buzz is created by photos of the shows, anyway, so Givenchy isn't really losing out here. In couture, this notion is especially acute.

Not that I'd like to see Karl do away with his 5 or 6 outlandish spectacles a year.

Two Of A Kind

I loved this photo that Cathy Horyn posted on her blog, of the fabulous Daphne Guinness leaving the Chanel Couture show via chauffeured motorcycle.

Speaking of Mme. Guinness, you must read her eloquent, heartfelt piece in the Financial Times about her decision to stop the Christie's sale of the late Isabella Blow's fashion collection and to purchase the whole lot herself.

Is it just me?

Or did something feel the slightest bit McQueen-derived about Fall 2010 Chanel Couture?

Lioness

A dazzling couture presentation from Karl. This felt a lot more out of the box than Chanel usually does to me. I always enjoy Chanel, but each collection tends to strike me as a cheeky (sometimes tired!) reinvention of the classic tweed. I guess couture is a different ballgame, and I loved it.
